2014 Summer Service Trip to Peru

This summer, Biology Without Borders will be organizing a community-engagement and service trip to Cusco, Peru from May 21st to June 11th.  This three-week trip will be comprised mainly of service work with our contacts in Peru, along with a 3-day trip to Machu Picchu. The service work will be with two groups: the Aldea Yanapay School and a Peruvian philanthropist, Edwin Gonzalez. At Aldea Yanapay, trip participants will work at the school with unpriviledged children for a week. With Edwin, service work will involve volunteering at another school, an orphanage, and a clinic for an additional week and a half. Throughout the trip, the students will be staying at the Aldea Yanapay hostel in Cusco and Edwin’s hotel in Urubamba. The trip itself will cost $2500 including the flight, housing, food, and recreational activities (including Machu Picchu). Participants will also return in time for summer classes, and the trip length will also leave plenty of time to work a summer job. If interested in the trip, please contact Cedric Lawrenz, lawre327@umn.edu, or Biology Without Borders, bwb@umn.edu, for more information, questions, or the trip application. The application will be due by email to Cedric Lawrenz on January 29th.
