School for Field Studies (SFS) Environmental Field Studies Abroad

Fall 2015 deadline extended to May 15, 2015 and additional scholarship support available!

SFS creates transformative study abroad experiences through field-based learning and research. SFS programs explore the human and ecological dimensions of the complex environmental problems faced by local partners, contributing to sustainable solutions in the places where we live and work. The SFS community is part of a growing network of individuals and institutions committed to environmental stewardship.

The May 15th deadline has been extended for the following Fall 2015 SFS programs for UMTC students:
The Living Mekong:  Cambodia & Vietnam

SFS Scholarships Available

  • Depending on the students’ level of need, SFS can provide SFS scholarships of up to $5,000 plus low interest loans up to $5,000 for fall 2015. SFS also has specific scholarship funding for students of Cambodian descent.
  • U of M students also receive an automatic fee reduction of $3,000 on top of this.

U of M International Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program scholarship due May 1, 2015

  • In addition to SFS funding, students can also apply for International UROP scholarship funding ($1,500).  This scholarship is designed to promote learning abroad opportunities to UMTC undergraduate students by providing critical funding to students enrolled in credit-bearing learning abroad programs involving a research project.
