Summer student lab position

Required:

  • Completion of Foundations Biology 2001 and 2002
  • Demonstrate understanding of molecular biology procedures (e.g. gel electrophoresis, DNA extraction and quantification, and PCR )
  • Demonstrated ability to execute tasks efficiently
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively communicate
  • Attention to detail and work alone or with a team
  • A commitment of at least 10 hours per week

Preferred skills:

  • Previous experience working with plants and experience with molecular techniques
  • Experience in field collection handling
  • Knowledge of large-scale ecological processes

Duties:

  • DNA extraction, RNA extraction, purification, gel electophoresis and PCR
  • Sort biomass and process plant samples
  • Assist in maintaining aphid colonies

  • Variety of projects involved which include but are not limited to the following:
  • Communities and disease – working with plant viruses and aphids
  • Human impacts at a global scale (Nutrient Network) – working with plants and plant tissues
  • Volunteers and summer work study-eligible students strongly encouraged to apply 
  • Possibility of continuation in fall through directed research and work study
