University Honors Program (UHP) is now accepting Fall 2013 admission applications

The University Honors Program (UHP) application for post-freshman admission in Fall 2013 is now available. If you have students who would benefit from participating in Honors, please encourage them to submit an application.

UHP offers guidance and enriched academic opportunities to highly motivated students whose intention is to participate in research, scholarship, or artistic activity under the guidance of a faculty mentor.

Participation in UHP provides:
  • individualized academic advising
  • Special honors courses and seminars
  • A close-knit community of driven and accomplished students
  • Increased access to courses and faculty from across colleges, as well as the University's Law and Medical schools
  • Graduate student library privileges
  • Social events
  • The opportunity to graduate with Latin Honors
    • Enrollment in UHP is a prerequisite for graduation with Latin honors. Latin honors (summa cum laude, magna cum laude, cum laude) is a nationally-recognized symbol of academic achievement

Eligibility requirements:

  • A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 (Please note that admission is highly competitive. The mean GPA for non-freshman students admitted to the program is typically 3.85. Admitted students have also demonstrated a strong interest in research, scholarship, or artistic activity.)
  • A history of strong performance in major and prerequisite coursework
  • At least 60 credits remaining until graduation as of Fall 2013 semester
Graduating with Latin honors:
To be eligible to graduate with Latin honors, students must be admitted to the University Honors Program and complete the honors degree requirements. These requirements include a 3.5 gpa minimum in the last 60 credits along with the completion of a research-based or scholarly/creative endeavor over the period of no less than one academic year, the results of which are summarized in a written honors thesis.

Interested students are strongly encouraged to attend one of these sessions to learn more about the University Honors Program and the application process:
  • Tuesday, 11/13/12 at 3 p.m. in 12 Nicholson Hall
  • Wednesday, 11/14/12 at 11:30 a.m. in 12 Nicholson Hall
  • Thursday, 11/15/12 at 12 noon in 12 Nicholson Hall
  • Friday, 11/16/12 at 10 a.m. in 12 Nicholson Hall
