Volunteer as a Special Exhibit Interpreter for

Ultimate Dinosaurs: Giants from Gondwana

If you like to help people learn and have fun, want to positively impact your community, and have interests and/or experience in customer service or education, we want you to join our wonderful volunteer community! The Science Museum of Minnesota is looking for new Special Exhibits Interpreters and Greeters.

Description of Volunteer Opportunity

Greeter: Positively shape each visitor’s experience by assisting them as they enter and exit the museum’s special exhibit, sharing in their excitement to see Ultimate Dinosaurs: Giants from Gondwana, and answering their questions. Be a smiling face visitors see, a hub for information, and a guide for exploration and fun.


Interpreter: Interpret a variety of content to visitors at activity stations in the exhibit that address how an amazing diversity of species evolved from the southern dinosaurs and their uniqueness to the North American dinosaurs. Volunteers will facilitate demonstrations on the topics of paleontological fieldwork and fossilization as well as interactive creative-play activities that include stop-motion films and flying “pterosaurs.”

Basic Requirements - for this ADVANCED role we ask that you:

Interpreter:

  • Have effective customer service and communication skills  
  • Are interested in accurately sharing information with visitors of all ages and backgrounds and facilitating enthusiastic conversations
  • Are interested in expanding your knowledge in content area
  • Are at least 16 years of age                            
  • Are able to volunteer for a regular weekly/biweekly four-hour shift 3/1/14-9/1/14 (Labor Day) and make 90% of your shifts
  • Available to take all required trainings and are open to feedback


Greeter:

  • Have effective customer service and communication skills
  • Are interested in interacting with visitors of all ages
  • Are interested in expanding knowledge of content in special exhibit area and customer service best practices
  • Are at least 16 years of age
  • Are able to volunteer for a regular weekly/biweekly four-hour shift 3/1/14-9/1/14 (Labor Day) and make 75% of your shifts
  • Are available to take all required trainings and are open to feedback

Training Dates

Interpreter: We ask volunteers attend a New Volunteer Orientation (Tue. 2/13, 6-9pm), and three content trainings to join this role. Trainings are 6-9pm, Tue. 2/18, Wed., 2/19, and Wed. 2/26.

Greeter: New Volunteer Orientation Thursday, February 13 6-9pm 
Training Wednesday, February 26 6-9pm
