From Minnesota to California to a growing number of areas around the world, many of our aquifers are being rapidly depleted, likely never to be replenished. Dr. Jay Famiglietti, professor of Earth System Science and of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Irvine, and the Senior Water Scientist at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology, leads a research team exploring declines in Earth's stores of groundwater measured over the last decade by NASA satellites.
