CBS Outstanding TA Award recipients announced

Three teaching assistants in CBS courses are recognized for their outstanding contributions in the classroom.

Kate Barry (Continuing Education), Tiffany Galush (Neuroscience) and Ben Swart (Genetics) are the recipients of 2014 CBS Outstanding TA Awards. Barry served as lab instructor for Biol 1055 (Our Global Environment: Science and Solutions). Galush was a teaching assistant for Biol 2007 (Marine Animal Diversity) and Biol 2012 (Zoology and Animal Diversity). And Swart was a lab instructor for Biol 1010 (Human Biology and Ethics).

Barry designed course materials and served as head teaching assistant for was Biol 1055. One student described her as “incredibly helpful” adding that Galush’s “great attitude that made me want to learn”

As lead TA for Biol 2007, a new course offering, Galush was instrumental in designing curriculum including a full-color dissection manual. A student in the class commented that “she taught the class in such a unique way that remembering the lesson materials was easy and fun.”

Swart, who was lead teaching assistant for the Biol 1010 lab, was nominated because of his strong work ethic, attention to details, and his genuine passion for biology and teaching. A student in his lab said: “By sharing his personal, real-world experiences he was able to help students, like me, who were not very enthused about the class to be more engaged and see a much bigger picture”.
