Dean Search Update // November 21, 2014

An update from Karen Hanson, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost

The search committee has been active throughout the summer and fall, and last month held confidential interviews with a select group of candidates. Based on the candidate materials and interviews, the search committee recommended to me a set of candidates to invite to public interviews on campus, and I have accepted their recommendations.

To preserve the confidentiality of the candidates as long as possible and thus minimize awkwardness at their current institutions, we will be announcing the candidates on the CBS dean search website the day before each campus visit. During the campus visits, each candidate will participate in a public forum, which will provide an opportunity for you to meet and talk with the candidate. The public forum will involve a brief presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session. Please note the dates and times of the public forums:

"A Vision for the Biological Sciences in a Land Grant Public Research University"

Public Forum & Reception

  • Monday, December 1, 10:30-noon, Mississippi Room, Coffman Union
  • Wednesday, December 3, 9:30-11 a.m., 402 Walter Library
  • Thursday, December 4, 4-5:30 p.m., 3-180 Kenneth H. Keller Hall
  • Monday, December 8, 3-4:30 p.m., 402 Walter Library

The public forums will be recorded and posted on the search website so that anyone unable to attend one or more of the sessions will still have an opportunity to view the presentations. We will also post each candidate's c.v. and an evaluation form on the search website the day before each visit to campus. In addition to the public forums, each of the candidates will be interviewed by a number of University stakeholder groups.

As the visits occur, please take time to review the candidates' materials, attend or view the public forums, and provide me with your feedback by completing either the evaluation forms distributed at the public forums or the online evaluation forms on the search web site.

I look forward to your participation and value your counsel in this important search process.
