Electronic time and absence reporting

Learn more about the switch to electronic time and absence reporting.

As you may know, the University’s student, finance, and human resource systems are going through an upgrade later this spring. This will bring change to many business processes, but we expect these changes to also increase convenience and efficiency. One of the major HR changes will be electronic time and absence reporting. This will change how hours worked are reported. There will no longer be paper time sheets or absence forms to complete. Hours and absences will be reported electronically.

This change will require staff to watch a couple of very short online training videos. Each employee needs to log into the training system and watch the complete video to get access into the new system. These videos are located at http://upgrade.umn.edu/training/upgradeeducation.html. Click the “Human Resource Systems” tab.

  • All staff who qualify for vacation time should watch the “Submitting Absences Course” located under “Absence Reporting.”
  • All staff who turn in time sheets or qualify for overtime should watch the “Reporting Time Course” located under “Time Reporting.”
  • Staff that officially supervisor employees should also watch the “Approving “Time and Absences Course” located under “Time Reporting.”
  • If you are unsure about whether or not you qualify for vacation/overtime or if you officially supervise employees, please contact CBS HR at cbshr@umn.edu

Additional trainings may be required.
