Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR) of spin-labeled biomolecules is used to detect site-directed dynamics, orientation, and accessibility, plus interspin distance in double-labeled biomolecules. BTC members also use EPR to study materials with unpaired electrons, such as free radicals and transition metals. BTC is equipped with three Bruker EPR spectrometers: an Elexsys E500 continuous-wave (CW) spectrometer operating at X-band (9 GHz), an Elexsys E500 CW spectrometer operating at X-band and Q-band (35 GHz) with variable temperature capability (2 K to 50 K), and an Elexsys E580 spectrometer with pulsed and CW modes at X-band and Q-band (34 GHz).
