Old Fees

The rates shown below are for samples submitted to the CMSP on or after 1st July 2015 and effective until February 29th 2016. For rates from March 1st 2016 - please visit our page for new fees (https://cbs.umn.edu/cmsp/newfees).

Hello users of the Center for Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics (CMSP) core facility,

The CMSP has been expanding in terms of our services, instruments, personnel and supporting infrastructure. This purchase of new instruments and new infrastructure (with maintenance contracts and software renewal costs) has resulted in increased costs as well. As a result, we are finding we need to re-work our operating model and fee structure to cover expenses in the CMSP.

In order to better cover our expenses and support our internal sales organization (ISO), we will be taking the following measures:

a) Effective 1st March 2016 we will increase fees for data acquisition on some instruments. These are posted on the CMSP website (http://cbs.umn.edu/cmsp/newfees). Our rate increases are minimal (approximately 10%) and restricted to instruments with service contracts. Samples submitted before 2/29 will be charged current rates. Samples after 3/1 will be charged new rates.  These will be in effect until September 30, 2016.  After July 2016, we will have an annual assessment of revenues and expenses.

b) We are putting in place a fee structure to capture time spent by facility personnel in planning projects, developing methods and analyzing data.  In some cases this will be a general "service fee" added onto the overall costs; in other cases we will charge per hour for extra time spent on these activities in addition to acquiring data.

c) We will increase the cost for services to external customers by 33%.

The CMSP has always been mindful of keeping rates affordable for University researchers.  Even with these increases we are still a cost-effective value compared to facilities at peer institutions, given the breadth of services and support the CMSP offers. We will continue to endeavor to provide the highest quality of service to facility users.

With Regards,
