Fostering and recognizing excellence and innovation for CBS staff

CBS Award for Technical Innovation and Faculty Support

This award is given to an employee or group of employees who have made an outstanding technical contribution or provided faculty support that exceeds position requirements. Examples might include but are not limited to:

  • enabling a new type of data to be collected that was not previously attainable.
  • developing an assay that is more efficient or cost effective than a previously used method;
  • developing a process that enhances productivity and/or lowers costs;
  • developing and disseminating a new technology (training students, postdocs and other personnel in its use);
  • generating data that resulted in a high impact paper on which the staff member is the first author or co-author;
  • helping faculty prepare and submit grants;
  • supervising undergraduate research projects.

The contribution should be endorsed and documented by the employee’s supervisor.

Eligibility 

The award is open to all full-time or part-time CBS P&A, civil service or bargaining unit employees working in a research laboratory or core research service program, and who are employed on a continual basis. Nominations must be by third party.

This award may be given to a single individual or shared among a team of employees.

Procedure for submission

Nominations are submitted to Barbara Irish, Executive Assistant to the Dean, by April 3 and should include:

  • names of nominee(s);
  • description of the innovation or other effort;
  • measures of the impact of the initiative;
  • contact information for the nominator and nominee(s).

Total nomination should not exceed 650 words

Evaluation

The CBS Dean will appoint a committee to evaluate nominations and make a recommendation for the award.

Award

$1,000 honorarium; an embossed, signed certificate of award; and public recognition by the CBS Dean at an appropriate event. A summary of the nomination will be publicized in CBS News and on the department/program and college websites.

CBS Award for Administrative Innovation

This award is given to an employee or group of employees who have exceeded job requirements in making an outstanding contribution to improve service, programs, or processes that:

  • has resulted in measurable improvement demonstrated by before and after comparisons;
  • can be applied or adapted to similar functions;
  • has potential as a “best practice” that can be used outside of the department.
Eligibility

The award is open to all full-time or part-time CBS P&A, civil service or bargaining unit employees who are employed on a continual basis. Nominations must be made by a third party and endorsed by the employee’s supervisor.

An award may be given to a single individual or shared among a team of employees.

Procedure for submission

Nominations are submitted to Barbara Irish, Executive Assistant to the Dean, by April 3 and should include:

  • whether nomination is for an individual or a group;
  • a description of the innovation;
  • measures that illustrate the impact of the initiative on quality, costs and effectiveness;
  • contact information for nominator and nominee(s).

Total nomination should not exceed 650 words.
