Mary Dempsey

 

With a career spanning four decades, Dr. Mary Dempsey was consistently at the forefront of fascinating research in the department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biophysics from 1962 – 2003. Her work on cholesterol biosynthesis, lipid transport proteins, and the processes of lipid metabolism were facets of a long and consistent career unraveling the mysteries of human physiology. She was an integral researcher in analyzing how lipid production and maintenance affected the long-term health of Minnesota’s communities. Her storied research longevity and important contributions are honored with the teal lipid layer symbol.
