Applications for Rhodes, Marshall, Churchill and Mitchell Scholarships

University of Minnesota Twin Cities 2019 campus nomination process for Rhodes, Marshall, Churchill and Mitchell Scholarships to support post-graduate study in Britain and Ireland.

Rhodes Scholarships cover the cost of two years of graduate study at Oxford University in any academic discipline. Marshall Scholarships award two years of study at any one or two British universities. Churchill Scholarships cover a single year of study for a Masters degree in a STEM field, and Mitchell Scholarships offer a year at any university in the Republic of Ireland. All are awarded to exceptional students who demonstrate the potential to be leaders in their fields and are committed to working for the benefit of humanity.

Students wishing to be considered for a nomination from the University to apply for these elite scholarships must submit the following to the Office of National and International Scholarships by April 1, 2019:

  • A preliminary application form (download)
  • Unofficial transcripts for all college courses
  • A thorough cv/resume
  • A personal statement of 800-1000 words describing one’s intellectual development, educational and career plans, and particular rationale for studying at the proposed university.
  • A description of the intended program of study
  • 3 letters of recommendation assessing academic qualifications, leadership skills and/or commitment to serving the public good as appropriate.  At least two of these should be from University of Minnesota faculty members.

Applications will be read and discussed by the members of the UK Scholarships Selection Committee and selected candidates will be invited to interview with the committee in mid to late April. Nominations will be announced by early May and ONIS will work with these students to prepare competitive applications for submission by the national deadlines in the fall. These applications will require additional writing and letters of recommendation and may lead to additional interviews.
