College of Biological Sciences Outreach Design Assistant 

The CBS Outreach Design Assistant is an undergraduate part-time position (~5-10 hours per week). The person in this role will be responsible for both generating and managing content for public communications for various CBS Outreach programs. In this position you will be expected to contribute to both new design concepts as well as creating new content within existing design parameters. The Design Assistant will support a high collaborative team and will be expected to work well in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Key tasks include creating and managing graphic designs for both print and digital media, such as program webpages, promotional posters, postcards, online images, and videos. The Outreach Design Assistant will also have the opportunity to participate in the BioTechnology Institute’s Science Communication Lab if interested. 

Responsibilities:

50% Website support for the Impact Exchange and associated programs

  • Support the initial design of a new webspace for CBS Outreach programs, with a particular focus on the Market Science program
  • Update the webpages with appropriate news and events including collaborating with outreach program staff to create digital educational materials

50% General design support for CBS Outreach and associated programs

  • Informing the design of CBS Outreach educational materials including lesson plans, activities sheets, and instructional materials
  • Create posters, flyers, and videos that support the dissemination of CBS Outreach activities as well as recruitment for program participants
  • Participate in semi-weekly Outreach Team meetings to contribute to the overall functioning of CBS outreach programs.

Required qualifications:

  • Consistently able to work ~5-10 hours a week
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite graphic design programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Spark
  • Experiences with web design, preferably with Wordpress
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work in a highly collaborative work environment but with a strong degree of autonomy on individual projects 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in an area of the biological sciences 
  • Demonstrated commitment to public engagement
  • Experience with video production or video editing
