U.S. Work Visa Workshops

International Student and Scholar Services has invited experienced immigration attorneys to present information sessions about usual paths to staying in the United States after your F-1 or J-1 options are complete.

1. Employment-based Visas and Permanent Residency workshop.
Monday, October 22, 4:30-6:00pm, 10 Blegen
Learn about the various types of employment-based visas (including H-1B) and paths to permanent residency (“green card”).  The presenter is John Medeiros. Mr. Medeiros is an immigration attorney with nearly 30 years of experience in immigration law.

2. H-1B Visa workshop.
Tuesday, October 30, 4:30-6:00pm, 10 Blegen
This session will focus exclusively on the H-1B visa, the differences between “cap-subject” and “cap-exempt” petitions, and the latest news on processing times. The information is about H-1B employment in the U.S. except at the University of Minnesota. Craig Peterson will be the presenter.  Mr. Peterson is an immigration attorney with over 20 years of immigration law experience. He has experience advising UMN international students, scholars, and employees.

Considering Moving to Canada?  Learn Work and Immigration Options

Thursday, November 15, 4:30pm-5:30pm, 125 Willey
International Student and Scholar Services has invited representatives from the Immigration section of the Consulate General of Canada to come to the Twin Cities campus. They will present to the UMN community about various topics, including:

  • the process to become a Canadian via the Express Entry program
  • opportunities to work in Canada

International students, scholars, and staff, and U.S. American citizens, in any discipline are welcome. Bring your UMN ID card (U-card).
