The student assistant will work on a project to study the potential for environmental DNA to be used as an indicator of fish biomass. This project is part of the newly created Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Research Center at the University of MN on the St. Paul Campus. The position’s main duties will be to assist in setting up laboratory experiments, conduct water sampling, DNA extraction, and quantitative PCR. Additionally, the student will assist with field work on area lakes approximately once per month.
Starting Date: 9/16/13
Desired Qualifications: (Be sure to also indicate whether the position is work-study only or not.) Although training on the use of basic molecular biology equipment, such as pipettes, will be provided, the assistant must be able to work independently after training. Impeccable note-taking skills and strong attention to detail are required. Applicants must have blocks of 4-6 hrs available during the work week at least 2 times per week. Work-study preferred. Experience with fish care preferred.
Pay Range: $9-12/hr, depending on experience
Hours: 10-15 hrs/wk
