The "UM-SMART" summer program is designed to provide an opportunity for highly motivated and talented undergraduates interested in careers as physician scientists to enhance their science and academic skills.
The program is targeted towards students who are from geographically, culturally or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds, students who have experienced financial hardship, and students with disabilities. Applicants should have completed at least their freshman undergraduate year.
The main focus of the program is laboratory biomedical research, but the program also includes physician shadowing, an MCAT prep course, and an opportunity to attend bi-weekly seminars and a 2 day MSTP retreat in August. Get more information at the UM-SMART website.
