Transgender Day of Remembrance

Transgender Day of RemembranceThe Queer Student Cultural Center and Gender & Sexuality Center for Queer and Trans Life invite you to observe the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) on November 20, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at Phillip-Wangensteen 2-470.

TDOR is observed annually on November 20th to honor those we have lost to transphobia and violence. The Day was founded in 1999 by a Gwendolyn Ann Smith, a trans woman, to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a Black trans woman who was murdered in 1998.

The event will begin in the lobby of the Phillip-Wangensteen Building, 2-470 at 5 p.m. with speakers from the QSCC, the GSC, and the broader community. Next, there will be a reading of the names of those who have killed during this past year, as well as a moment of silence for all the names that aren't known. There will be an opportunity for anyone who wishes to speak to do so.

Afterwards, the Queer Student Cultural Center space in the Union 217 will be open to folks who want to decompress, have coffee or tea, make popcorn, and just spend time with other trans and queer people.

For disability services or access requests please contact James Schwartz at or call 612-625-0537.
