University Honors Program Now Accepting Post-Freshman Applications

The University Honors Program (UHP) is now accepting Fall 2014 admission applications. The application deadline is February 3, 2014. If you are a highly-motivated student whose intention is to participate in research, scholarship, or artistic activity under the guidance of a faculty mentor, you may wish to apply. Participation in UHP provides:

  • Individualized academic advising
  • Special honors courses and seminars
  • A close-knit community of driven and accomplished students
  • Increased access to courses and faculty from across colleges
  • Graduate student library privileges
  • Social events
  • The opportunity to graduate with Latin honors
  • Enrollment in UHP is a pre-requisite for graduation with Latin honors. Latin honors (summa cum laude, magna cum laude, cum laude) is a nationally-recognized symbol of academic achievement

Eligibility requirements

  • A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 (Please note that admission is highly competitive. The mean GPA for non-freshman students admitted to the program is typically 3.85. Admitted students have also demonstrated a strong interest in research, scholarship, or artistic activity.)
  • A history of strong performance in major and prerequisite coursework
  • At least 60 graded (A–F) credits left to complete at the U of M-Twin Cities after admission

Graduating with Latin honors

To be eligible to graduate with Latin honors, you must be admitted to the University Honors Program and complete the honors degree requirements. These requirements include a minimum 3.5 GPA in your last 60 credits along with the completion of a research-based or scholarly/creative endeavor over the period of no less than one academic year, the results of which are summarized in a written honors thesis.
