Strong science communication skills are essential in academia, industry, nonprofit and beyond. Hone your writing skills and contribute to BioLine, a blog launched in 2020 by CBS grad students, that shares stories and findings from UMN labs. Write for audiences beyond your academic bubble and get helpful feedback as you write.

Participants will:

• Decipher what jargon is worth explaining and what can be left out. 
• Brainstorm creative analogies to explain complex concepts in your research.
• Write, peer-review, and submit a piece for BioLine.

Details:

• Open to anyone interested in submitting to BioLine
• 4 workshops, 2 hours each
• Wednesdays, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. CT | Oct 26, Nov 2, Nov 16,  Nov 30
• In-person — Either St. Paul or East Bank depending on interest

Claire Wilson — As a senior content strategist on the CBS Communications, Marketing, and Advancement Team, Claire focuses on developing stories to highlight the work of CBS faculty, researchers, and students. She frequently writes articles for BIO, the college's alumni magazine, online blogs, and other CBS print publications. She completed a M.S. in Ecology and Ecosystem Science at the University of Rhode Island in 2016 and has worked in the science communication space since.
