Itasca Biological Station and Laboratories recently launched a call for proposals for seed grants for future research projects at the field station. These seed grants aim to spark new scientific inquiry and research at the field station and facilitate preliminary, higher risk efforts focused in up-and-coming creative spaces (e.g., techniques, emerging theory). Field stations, however, focus on places with particular qualities amenable to sustaining longer-term research. Itasca Station has hosted place-based field biology since 1909, and is uniquely suited for teaching and engagement.
With this in mind, Seed-to-Root grants target new investments at Itasca in a combination of funding, support, and flexibility to encourage science to take root. The field station anticipates giving out three to five awards which will each last two years. The application deadline for proposals is 5:00 p.m. (CST) on January 20, 2019.
