CBS People: Amy Barton

A University veteran joins the CBS Student Services ranks as the Assistant Director for Student Engagement.

Amy BartonWhat is your position with CBS Student Services?
I am excited to join CBS Student Services as the Assistant Director for Student Engagement! This role leads the student engagement and first year recruitment efforts.

What are you most looking forward to about this position?
I am excited to build upon the work of developing inclusive scientific leaders by partnering with the talented staff, faculty and students in CBS.

This is not your first stop at the University of Minnesota. Where all have you worked and what roles did you have there?
I completed both my undergraduate (B.S. in Family Social Science) and graduate (M.A. in Multicultural College Teaching and Learning) degrees from the University of Minnesota. Between undergraduate and graduate school, I was the Vice President for the CEHD Alumni Board which sparked my interest for higher education. During graduate school, I was a research assistant, teaching assistant, completed an academic advising practicum and a career counseling internship. Prior to this role in CBS, I was a Career Counselor in the College of Liberal Arts working with STEM students.

You got your undergraduate degree from the U of M. What is your favorite thing about the University?
There is always something new to be discovered! Even after being a part of the University community for 15 years, I am still learning everyday.

What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time I like to spend time with my family, listen to podcasts and go to brunch with friends.
