This CBS academic advisor enjoys the relationship building essential in his day-to-day work.

Tony Och
How long have you been at the University of Minnesota?
I started in CBS in February 2019.

Where did you work before coming to the University?
I worked as an academic advisor at St. Catherine University, in St. Paul, MN for five-and-a-half years, primarily working with pre-nursing and first-year students. Prior to my role in advising, I was a hall director on campus.

Describe something fun or unusual about your work in CBS Student Services?
I love working with the CBS Student Services staff. We all bring our unique individual strengths to help students. I also love the fact that if I need a good restaurant recommendation or book to read, I know who to turn to.

What's your favorite aspect of working with CBS students?
I love that we work with our advisees from when they matriculate to the University until they walk across the stage at commencement. This allows us to develop tight-knit relationships that provide a solid constant as they progress through their studies.

What do you like to do with your free time?
I play piano for a church here in the Cities on the weekends. I also love spending time with my partner, Daniel and our kitty, Luca. Honestly, a good weekend would include a trip to Target, a large iced white mocha from Caribou, and making sure that I do not fall too far behind in my fantasy football league.
