First, let me take this opportunity to say once again what outstanding faculty we have here at the College of Biological Sciences. Case in point, Clarivate Analytics recently published its 2018 Highly Cited Researchers list. Of the 21 University of Minnesota faculty listed, seven are associated with CBS.
Thank you to all who attended the Teaching Excellence Town Hall last week. We will be collecting the discussion notes and responding to them. I hope we can have more of such events that bring faculty together across the college to discuss topics of common interest. If anyone has any ideas for future town hall themes, please send them my way.
The new year brings a leadership transition here in the CBS Dean’s Office. I want to extend a warm welcome to David Greenstein, who will step into the role of associate dean for research at the beginning of 2019. After having served as CBS associate dean from 2010 until now and as interim dean of CBS from 2014-2015, Tom Hays will assume the role of department head for the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development. Many thanks to Tom and to outgoing GCD head Mike O’Connor for their many years of dedicated service to GCD and to this College.
You may have seen the call for applications for the 2019 Grand Challenges in Biology Postdoctoral Program. Please share the announcement with your networks and consider sponsoring a postdoc in your lab! The program offers faculty and postdocs the chance to do the kind of cross-disciplinary research needed to address complex societal issues around health and environment.
I wish you all a relaxing and enjoyable break and look forward to seeing you in the new year. Thank you for all you do!
