Dean's note - December 2022

January 09, 2023

The end of the year is fast approaching and I want to take a moment to express gratitude for all your great work this semester. The dedication and day-to-day efforts of the members of this community are what make all of this possible. Thank you!

The Provost kicked off the search for a new dean for CBS late last month. I encourage everyone to participate in listening sessions and share your views on what’s needed in a future leader of the college. You will find updates about the search and can submit comments to the Provost’s office on the college’s dean search page.

As you may know, our philanthropic efforts are currently focused on raising funds to increase paid undergraduate research opportunities for students and provide transfer students with scholarships. Last month, we surpassed our $17,000 goal thanks to a matching gift made possible by members of the college’s leadership team and a handful of donors and contributions from more than 50 people. The generosity of this community is inspiring. Thanks to all who pitched in to the crowdfunding campaign to support our transfer students.

I am also grateful for the commitment of so many to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and justice in the college. I recently shared an update with CBS students, staff and faculty, and met with the CBS DEIJ Community of Practice for a conversation about steps we are taking including launching a new call for applications for DEIJ microgrants. I encourage members of the CBS community to consider applying.

I hope you are able to relax, recharge, and spend time with loved ones over the coming break. Until then, please be sure to take care of yourself as we navigate this incredibly busy time of year.
