Four CBS faculty promoted

Faculty recognized for excellence in research, teaching and mentoring.

Hideki Aihara (BMBB) was promoted to associate professor with tenure. Aihara leads a nationally recognized research program using x-ray crystallography to determine the structure of proteins involved in DNA metabolism. In addition, he has numerous scholarly publications describing discoveries with important medical implications and a strong record of teaching and mentoring postdoctoral, graduate and undergraduate researchers.

Laura Gammill (GCD) was promoted to associate professor with tenure. Gammill leads a nationally recognized research program that uses genome-wide approaches to understand the development of neural crest cells, which differentiate into a variety of adult cell types including neurons and muscle.  She has a strong record of scholarly publications and research support and a proven ability to teach and mentor postdoctoral, graduate and undergraduate researchers.

Lincoln Potter (GCD) was promoted to professor with tenure. Potter leads an internationally recognized, collaborative research program that explores key biochemical processes involved in the regulation of cardiovascular function and body fluid levels. He has an exceptionally strong record of scholarly productivity, including research papers, patents, and invited seminars, and sustained and diverse support for his research.

Peter Tiffin (PBIO) was promoted to professor with tenure. He leads an internationally recognized research program that explores the relationship between genome structure and the evolution of complex traits in plants, such as symbiosis and growth range. He uses innovative approaches to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of venues, including international courses
