Summary of the Position:
This position will provide support to courses and programs in the College of Biological Sciences resulting in effective, efficient, safe, and functional instructional laboratories. Support includes coordination of Biochemistry lab classes, maintaining cultures of microbes, performing steps for students outside of normal class time so students can continue multi-step, multi-day experiments, setting up and cleaning up lab spaces and equipment, ordering media, reagents, specimens, and other materials, trouble-shooting equipment and procedures, maintaining and cleaning equipment, coordinating efficient use of equipment for several classes to best use University resources, organizing and maintaining lab space, assisting teaching assistants and faculty, pre-running experiments, assisting students and other staff, and other duties as assigned. This position supports an intersession class and a summer class in addition to the regular academic year classes. Must be able to perform work independently and be able to provide new directions for the laboratory work.
A BS (or BA) degree in biology field and at least 2 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal six years.Broadly trained in Biology or Biochemistry, previous experience working with molecular biology techniques. Experience with media/reagent preparation, microbial culture preparation and maintenance, and Candidate must have demonstrated strong organizational and communication skills, good record keeping, ability to work with a wide variety of people, and good problem-solving skills. Must be able to meet unmovable deadlines (class starts.) Expect a team player.
BS degree in Biochemistry or Biological sciences a minimum with an additional four years laboratory experience in biochemistry, molecular biology and microbiology. Experience working with students helpful. Experience in both research and instructional laboratories an added bonus.
