Faculty fellows work with the postdoctoral teaching fellows to help them develop teaching materials, improve their teaching skills, or conduct research. Faculty fellows are mostly faculty from the College of Biological Sciences, but some are faculty members in other colleges at the University. Depending on the nature of the work they do with the HHMI postdocs, they are classified as either teaching mentors and research mentors.
Teaching mentors help postdocs as they design the research-based teaching materials, while also helping them develop their teaching skills. A postdoc's teaching project is typically incorporated into a class taught by their teaching mentor.
Research mentors provide postdocs with research-related resources. Postdocs may work in the lab of a research mentor. Sometimes, postdocs will incorporate a part of their mentors' research into their teaching project.
