During the past few years the work in the Hamilton lab has focused in three areas of reproduction:
- signaling events that occur in sperm during capacitation in the female
- reproductive tract (an early process that prepares sperm to bind to the egg),
- the calcium-dependent acrosome reaction (an exocytotic event that occurs after sperm have bound to the egg), and
- fertilization (during which the sperm and egg fuse).
The lab will continue to work in these areas in the future, particularly focusing on regulation of fertility by sperm-associated membrane proteins acquired during maturation.
