Campus and Community Affiliations
I'm involved in the Minnesota College Professionals Association, and I worked for a few years on the Republic's food truck, the Red River Kitchen. I'm also currently in the process of completing the Office of Equity and Diversity's basic and advanced social justice certificate.
Life before CBS…
Before joining CBS, I used to work in the Carlson School of Management's Undergraduate Business Career Center; I led all of their mock interviews for undergraduate students. Prior to my work at the University of Minnesota, I spent a brief stint at both the University of St. Thomas and the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. Before working in the field of higher education, I provided technical support for a software company in downtown Minneapolis.
Adjusting to college life…
During undergrad, I developed my sense of belonging by getting involved with campus organizations activities such as MPIRG, Welcome Week, the Leadership Minor, and the Pay-It-Forward Tour. I also made it a high priority to spend time with my friends and check-in with my family each week. Because the Twin Cities has a large music scene, I developed an active interest in getting connected to local artists and attending many shows.
Favorite part of the job?
My favorite aspect of my job is meeting individually with students and hearing about all of the amazing things they are accomplishing in their undergraduate studies. CBS students are very genuine in their interests and passions, and their excitement is contagious. It's really fun to see what students accomplish, and it also can be very rewarding to support students as they work through challenges in midst of moving towards their professional goals. It's really great to meet students early on in the undergraduate careers and then see them grow and develop over time.
Current passions, hobbies, things that give you joy?
I have a very eclectic set of interests, but there are certainly a few things I can definitely geek out about. I love punk and ska music (mid 1980s to early 2000s), video games (console and computer, especially early to mid 1990s), comic books (X-Men 1991 Claremont and Lee run is a favorite!), and skateboarding. Outside of the things I geek out about, I watch a fair amount of movies, play piano and synthesizers, run long distances for fun, bowl, and play board games. Most important, I enjoy spending time with my spouse Kate, my family who lives throughout the Twin Cities, and my cat Lupe.
When in my office...
Be on the lookout for some of my action figures. Yes, I have action figures in my office, and on my shelves at home.
