Study Abroad Advisor
I spend 25% of my time in CBS and also work in the Learning Abroad Center as an Associate Program Director.
My undergraduate degree is in Humanities from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. I have a Master's degree in Experiential Education from Minnesota State University, Mankato. I'm passionate about helping students learn through direct, hands-on experiences like studying abroad.
Life before CBS…
I have worked in the Learning Abroad Center on campus since 2011. I joined CBS in a 25% capacity in January 2019. Prior to that, I worked at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio as a study abroad program coordinator and was a graduate student in Mankato, Minnesota. I was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska.
As an undergrad...
I attended a small private liberal arts school and was active as a reporter for the student newspaper and in the international club on campus. I studied Spanish and studied abroad twice. The first time, I spent six weeks in Granada, Spain doing an intensive language program over the summer. Later, I spent a full semester on a Latin American studies program based in San José, Costa Rica. These international experiences had a huge impact on me, and (obviously!) shaped my career path.
Favorite part of the job?
Working in education abroad is never boring. I get to collaborate with amazing colleagues around the world and across campus to bring our programs to life. I also love connecting with students, hearing about their personal and academic interests, and helping them find the perfect learning abroad experience. It's also inspirting when students return from abroad and share what they've learned from the experience with me. Being immersed in another culture is a really impactful experience!
Current passions, hobbies, things that give you joy?
I'm a huge foodie, so I really enjoy cooking and trying out new restaurants around the Twin Cities. I could talk about food for hours! I love to be outside whether it's hiking or riding my bike. I also really enjoy traveling and discovering new places.
