Life before CBS…
Before joining CBS I was an academic advisor in CSE and an Assistant Director of Health and Law Professions Advising at the University of Virginia. I very much enjoy the conversations I get to have with students related to career planning and exploration and think it's funny that I started my career working with pre-health students and now my role in CBS is working with students who are interested in other careers outside of healthcare.
Adjusting to college life…
During undergrad, I developed my sense of belonging by writing for a school newspaper, and not taking myself so seriously! I didn't know anyone who was going to my college so I really had to be comfortable going to event by myself and trying new things!
Favorite part of the job?
Helping students break down big questions like "What will I do, who am I, and what do I like?," into manageable steps that might actually be fun! The most exciting things for me is when a student thinks career exploration is going to be stressful or overwhelming and then they start to find interesting information or have great conversations with people that make them realize that learning about future careers can actually be an enjoyable experience!
Current passions, hobbies, things that give you joy?
I love people's pets, and especially my dog Henry! He has such funny idiosyncrasies, and I really enjoy hearing about other people's pets and what they love about them! If you're lucky, you may see him in MCB 3-104 on rare occasions! My husband AJ and I enjoy sports especially college athletics, and I find riding my bike along the Mississippi River in St Paul to be my favorite way to manage my stress.
Be on the lookout for...
All the great programming the CBS Career team does to help you learn about careers in biology, and ask me about my latest favorite podcast, dog Henry, or whatever you want to kick off our appointment (surprise me!)
