Where did you go to school before transferring to the University of Minnesota?
I attended the University of Minnesota (Duluth).
Why did you decide to transfer to the University of Minnesota?
I transferred to the University of Minnesota to be closer to my family, take advantage of the opportunities to get involved in research, and prepare for my future.
What are you researching?
I am currently researching the effect chemical paralytics have on frog auditory systems. I chose this project because I have always been interested in neuroscience and the brain. Currently there is no research out there to see how chemical paralytics affect the auditory systems of frogs. We are testing three types of chemical paralytics will be comparing them to see what effects they may have in common or what effects they may differ in. This was a good opportunity for me because I am interested in studying neuroscience. I also enjoy animals so I thought that would be a good fit.
What have you gotten out of this experience?
I have got a better understanding of what research is all about and why the University of Minnesota is known for their research. I will have this research experience on my resume to help me get into a pre-professional program. I have grown as a person, learned to work more independently, and gained more confidence in myself.
What are your interests outside of school?
In my spare time I love to spend time running, reading, scrap booking, and hanging out with friends. I enjoy watching hockey and baseball and playing soccer and softball.
Do you participate in any extracurricular activities?
I am involved in Biology Without Borders, Pre-Physical Therapy Club, and Pre-Occupational Therapy Group.
What are your plans for the future?
With the rest of my time at the University, I plan to stay involved in research opportunities, clubs, and the community. After I graduate from the University of Minnesota, I plan on attending a occupational therapy or physical therapy school.
