Yuying was a 2012 undergraduate researcher who worked with mentor Amanda Brosnahan to research the proinflammatory response of human vaginal epithelial cells in the presence of norepinephrine.
Where did you transfer from?
The University of St. Thomas
Why did you want to come to the University?
I came to the University of Minnesota because it is huge research institution where l could find more research opportunities. Plus, the College of Biological Science is a great college.
What did you research?
We were looking to characterize the cell signaling pathways involved in the enhancement of cytokine and chemokine responses by human vaginal epithelial cells to bacterial toxins and purified peptidoglycan in the presence of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine. Recently, a paper by my mentor on this research was published in the Journal of Neuroimmunology and I am named as an author.
What did you get out of this experience?
I understand more about research, the scientific process, and the type of mindset needed by a researcher. My mentor was great and very helpful!
What are your interests outside of school?
Drawing, reading, singing, traveling and eating!
What are your plans for the future?
I want to go to graduate school after college and eventually be a bioengineer.
