Sehoya Cotner

Sehoya is a teaching associate professor in the biology program. She has worked with Sadie Hebert to implement an authentic research experience involving bean beetles for her students in BIOL 1003 Evolution and Biology of Sex. Using bean beetles as a model organism, students will generate a research question investigating topics such as sexual selection, operational sex ratios, or same-sex mating behaviors. Then they will be challenged to design and conduct experiments to answer their question.

As a teacher, Sehoya emphasises active learning techniques and the use sex as a teaching tool, so the bean beetle lab was a logical fit for her class.
