Where did you transfer from?

Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC)

Why did you want to come to the University of Minnesota?

When I moved to Minnesota my senior year of high school, I found that I had already finished my college requirements, so I went to MCTC my freshman year until I could transfer to the University of Minnesota.

What are you researching?

We are analyzing gait changes associated with Parkinson’s disease in non-human primates as well as looking at the effectiveness of specific treatment options, such as dopamine replacement therapy (levodopa). I chose this project because I have been personally interested in Parkinson's disease since my grandfather was diagnosed with it in 2001. This research will allow us to further understand Parkinson's disease and provide better treatment in the future.

What have you gotten out of this experience?

I have learned a lot about Parkinson’s disease and how it affects patients' locomotion. Further along in the project, I will be able to hone my critical-thinking skills as we analyze the data and make conclusions.

What are your plans for the future?

After I graduate, I plan to going to medical school.
