Edward Higgins

Where did you transfer from?

Anoka Ramsey Community College

Why did you want to come to the University of Minnesota?

The College of Biological Sciences looked like a fantastic school, and the research opportunities were all very exciting.

What are you researching?

I am researching malignant melanoma and drug chemoresistance. I chose this research project because I am interested in understanding cancer biology. The research is important since malignant melanoma is very deadly when diagnosed late and can affect very young individuals.

What have you gotten out of this experience?

I have learned many lab techniques, such as tissue culture, MTS assay, western blotting, and immunostaining. This experience has just been remarkable and has reaffirmed my interest in research and medicine.

What are your interests outside of school?

Golfing, weightlifting, and visiting with family.

Do you participate in any extracurricular activities?

I volunteer in the emergency room at University of Minnesota Fairview hospital.

What are you plans for the future?

I am planning on attending medical school after I graduate.
