CBS students have access to an incredible diversity of research opportunities. Financial need should not prevent them from following where their curiosity leads.
College of Biological Sciences students engage in research right away in our award-winning Foundations of Biology courses. Those introductory courses are premised on the idea that students learn biology by doing biology. Students are encouraged to experiment and test out their own hypotheses in our first-of-its-kind active learning lab. This introduction to research is a first step meant to inspire curiosity, but it should not be the last.
The good news is that as part of one of the country’s leading research universities, CBS students have nearly unparalleled opportunities to work with field-shaping faculty specializing in everything from astrobiology to genomics to ecology. Our goal is to ensure that every student is able to access these authentic research experiences regardless of financial need.
The Dean’s Research Program, which launched this summer, funds positions in research labs. The program provides students with paid positions lasting 12-14 weeks. Demand is high and the need is great. We know many students cannot afford to choose research over other types of employment. Financial need should never prevent a student from realizing their full potential. By supporting the program, you can ensure that funding isn’t a barrier to participation.
