Pearl Lam Bergad gained a master's degree in biology from CBS and later spent 28 years working as a research molecular biologist in the U of M Medical School, first in the Department of Ophthalmology and then the Department of Pediatrics, where she was instrumental in elucidating the growth hormone response element in rat liver.
Bergad’s biology training led her to understand Chinese cultural impacts and on leaving her science career, she became Executive Director of Minneapolis’ Chinese Heritage Foundation, directing programs and activities designed to promote and preserve Chinese culture, history and heritage. Bergad has been recognized with major awards for her distinguished careers in both the sciences and arts.
This is why her guild symbol is a warm berry color, symbolizing her passion for science and music.
