Research statement
My research is focused on student understandings, beliefs, and experiences of race and gender in STEM classrooms, and how they are impacted by curriculum structure and faculty. I am designing assessment instruments to capture students' beliefs about race and their understanding of genetics concepts to determine how various racial beliefs may be linked to understanding of certain concepts, and how other demographic factors may mediate those relationships. I also investigate how sex and gender are taught in STEM classes, the experiences of faculty and students, and how the way they're taught impacts transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming students.
