Research statement
Since arriving at UMR, Kelsey has been engaged in the development of innovative undergraduate health sciences curriculum implemented using evidence-based and high-impact instructional practices in the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree program.
Kelsey conducts research on student learning in the domains of SoTL, DBER, and institutional assessment. Her published work includes examination of health sciences students’ acceptance of evolution, supporting the development of effective student study habits and metacognitive practices, investigation of student attitudes and perceptions regarding active learning classrooms and innovative teaching practices, and measuring students’ sense of school and classroom community concerning in-person and remote learning contexts. Her current research seeks to explore the impact of course-level interventions such as high-structure course design and active learning that support equitable student engagement and performance.
Kelsey is also actively involved in supporting new faculty development and has contributed to the literature on models to support faculty in adopting evidence-based instructional practices.
