My research focuses on drug discovery from natural sources, emphasizing the isolation, structural elucidation, and biological evaluation of bioactive metabolites from plants, microbes, and marine organisms. I have a particular interest in the chemistry, pharmacology, and genomics of extremophiles from extreme and environmentally challenging habitats — integrating bioinformatics to uncover biosynthetic gene clusters and novel therapeutically promising compounds.

Research statement
- Drug discovery from natural sources, including microbes, marine organisms, plants, etc.
- Isolation of bioactive compounds from natural sources (plants, marine organisms, and microbial microorganisms, including bacteria and fungi) using bioassay-guided techniques. This includes the use of different chromatographic techniques, such as normal phase, reversed phase, HPLC, LCMS, gel permeation, etc.
- Identification and structural elucidation of natural products using extensive 1D and 2D NMR, 15N NMR techniques, in addition to Mass Spectrometry.
- Fermentation, biomass production of microbes (bacteria and fungi), in addition to the isolation and characterization of the secondary metabolites from the culture broth.
- Microbial Biotransformation to produce new active entities.
- Biological Screening and analysis, including antibacterial, cytotoxic, antioxidant, and lipoxygenase inhibition activity.
- Microbial Genomics and Bioinformatics, including microbial genome sequencing and bioinformatics analysis to discover the biosynthetic gene clusters.
