Where did you transfer from?
The University of St. Thomas
Why did you want to come to the University of Minnesota?
I came to the University because there were more diverse research opportunities here and I felt like I would enjoy the academic atmosphere of the University of Minnesota.
What are you researching?
My mentor and I are working to understand how deep brain stimulation produces therapeutic effects for patients with Parkinson's disease. In my project I'm hoping to show a difference in neuron firing patterns in patients with Parkinson's disease. This research is important because it could help doctors more accurately treat their patients. I chose this project because I wanted to work with human data and gain experience in medical research.
What have you gotten out of this experience?
I now have a much better understanding of how research is actually done. It has made me realize just how much work goes into developing the theories that we learn about in our textbooks. This experience has made me much more interested in moving into a research field after graduation.
What are your interests outside of school?
When I have free time, I like to go on runs and play football, soccer, and volleyball with friends. I'm also trying to teach myself guitar.
Do you participate in any extracurricular activities?
I am a volunteer EMT with the University of Minnesota Emergency Medical Services.
What are your plans for the future?
I hope to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and afterwards, go to medical school.
