Stanley Dagley-Samuel Kirkwood Undergraduate Education Award
This award acknowledges exceptional faculty contributions to undergraduate education including classroom presentation, educational innovation, and curriculum development. It recognizes scholarly work with individual students on projects, in tutorials and in other informal settings. Understanding of academic advising is also considered a good aspect of teaching. Some faculty members make particularly significant contributions by developing new courses, organizing or reorganizing curricular programs, or improving teaching methods and techniques. The recipient of this award will have enhanced the lives of College of Biological Sciences students. View past recipients.
John S. Anderson Leadership Award
This award recognizes the exceptional contributions of faculty and staff to their department as well as the college through administrative and academic leadership, programmatic development, classroom and laboratory teaching, student advising, and contributions to co-curricular activities. It is expected that recipients of this award will exhibit the personal characteristics that were often used to describe Dr. Anderson, which include fairness, integrity, honesty, forthrightness, openness, and inclusiveness. Dr. Anderson was also well known for his enthusiasm, commitment to and love of the University. View past recipients.
CBS Excellence in Research and Innovation Award
This award recognizes demonstrated excellence in forefront research and innovation with emphasis on the previous three years. Any or all publications, presentations, patents, Ph.D. student success, honors and awards, or other recognition may be cited in support. All tenured faculty with majority appointments in a department within the College of Biological Sciences (BMBB, BTL, EEB, GCD, PMB). Distinguished McKnight and Regents professors; faculty on phased retirement plans or faculty with an anticipated appointment end in the coming year; associate deans and department heads are not eligible. Each department may submit only one nomination.
CBS Rising Star in Research and Innovation Award
The College recognizes faculty with this award who have demonstrated excellence in forefront research and innovation with emphasis on work conducted at the University of Minnesota. Any or all publications, presentations, patents, student success, honors and awards, or other recognition may be cited in support. All tenure-track assistant professors and first-year associate professors with majority appointments in a department within the College of Biological Sciences (BMBB, BTL, EEB, GCD, PMB). Each department may submit only one nomination. McKnight Award winners are not eligible to win this award in the same year.
CBS Excellence in Graduate Student Education Award
This award recognizes demonstrated excellence in teaching at the graduate and/or professional level is the primary consideration, with emphasis on the most recent three years. Teaching includes not only classroom and laboratory instruction, but also guidance of students in research or project activities, student advising, and development/introduction of new methods, courses, or materials (e.g., books or software). All faculty with majority appointments in a department within the College of Biological Sciences (BMBB, BTL, EEB, GCD, PMB). Each department may submit only one nomination.
CBS awards for staff
CBS Outstanding Staff Service Awards
The College of Biological Sciences Outstanding Staff Service Awards are honorary and are presented to civil service, bargaining unit, and P&A staff members in recognition of exemplary contributions to the College, its vision, and its mission. Objectives of this award are as follows:
- To recognize outstanding staff members for performance, achievements, or scientific/ technical accomplishments that are above those normally expected, are exemplary, and contribute to the success of the College.
- To encourage staff members to engage in improving College operations, e.g. administrative, business, advising, communications, IT, lab/research, teaching, or technical support.
