Summer course on biomimetics starts June 9.
Social distancing lobsters, microbe-filtering plankton, antiviral-producing plants, and cooperative birds. Nature has been solving problems analogous to ours for eons. What, if anything, can we learn from studying this diversity of adaptations? In this class, we will use the COVID-19 crisis as a lens to explore the potential utility and breadth of “biomimetics,” a problem-solving approach that draws inspiration from the over 8 million species on earth. Instructor: Emilie Snell-Rood. More information at z.umn.edu/bioinspired
