Research statement

My research revolves around how students make sense of mathematics in the context of science and how mathematics can be used to understand scientific phenomena. I also explore instructors' decision making about what sensemaking opportunities to provide when teaching science involving mathematical equations or graphs. Together, these studies will lead to a unifying theory of instruction and learning of mathematics in science.
