PMB program orientation
In mid-August, first-year students in the PMB program participate in a four-day orientation at the University of Minnesota Itasca Biological Station and Laboratories located on beautiful Lake Itasca. This is a spectacular scenic setting in Lake Itasca State Park, near the headwaters of the Mississippi River. Orientation involves an overview of program requirements and resources, several brief research presentations, field tours, and time to get to know other students and faculty in the program. There also are recreational opportunities, including canoeing and biking, hiking, and visiting the headwaters. Rooted in this early shared experience, acquaintanceships and friendships naturally develop into intellectual collaborations.
