Academic probation
Students who were placed on probation at the end of their last enrolled term or are returning from suspension, will remain on probation when readmitted to the College of Biological Sciences.
Academic suspension
Students placed on academic suspension are eligible to apply for readmission after being away from UMN for one academic year.
Advising for returning students
Advising requirements for students returning to CBS vary based on academic standing and length of time away from campus.
Students who have been away for more than two consecutive semesters: Prior to enrolling, meet with a CBS advisor to discuss your return, and confirm your registration plans.
Students who were placed on probation at the end of their last enrolled term or are returning from suspension: During the first term of re-enrollment, you will be required to complete probation advising. Prior to enrolling, contact a CBS advisor to discuss your return, probation advising requirements, and confirm your registration plans.
Degree Requirements for Returning Students
Students who are not returning from an approved Leave of Absence and have been away for more than two consecutive semesters will be held to the newest degree requirements per University Policy.
Dated Credits Policy
Students with dated credits, defined as upper division, 3xxx-4xxx level, courses in the major that were completed 6 or more years prior to the current academic year, must have these credits evaluated to be considered for use in their degree. Each department in the College of Biological Sciences has an established policy for the evaluation of dated credits, visit the CBS Dated Credits Policy page for more information on the process and requirements for having dated credits evaluated.
Holds
Any holds which are active on a student’s record before the student is placed on inactive status will remain unless action has been taken during absence to remove the holds.
