Much has been made of brain size evolution in our human ancestors compared with our nearest relatives, and certainly humans demonstrate a greater capacity of cognition. But what do we really learn when we compare ourselves to our ape cousins? They engage in all sorts of complex behaviors and group dynamics, solve problems and communicate. Are we really so different?

As our understanding of biology and external impacts on children have increased, are we finally at a point where we can put this discussion in the rearview mirror?
